HOLY KITCHETERIA BATMAN! Yesterday I had lunch with my sister in downtown DC. With the traffic and the difficulty in finding a parking space in Washington, we basically took the approach of looking for somewhere to park, and then choosing a nearby restaurant. Across the street from where we parked was the Hotel Harrington. My sister and I just stood for a moment, trying to make sense of their sign. Now, I don't know if I'd want to stay in a place called ''Washington's Tourist Hotel', but then again, I'm not a tourist in this town. What exactly a 'Kitcheteria' is, I do not know, but I think the real mystery is why they're using the 'Bat Symbol' on their sign.

WHAT'S GOING ON IN ROCK CREEK PARK? Last Monday, I was driving through Rock Creek Park on my way to work, when I came upon this burned car. Of course, Rock Creek Park is where the remains of Chandra Levy were recently found. This car was several miles from that location, but still, it's unusual to see anything like this there. It got me really thinking about what's going on in that wooded area. I suspect foul play.

LOVE OR PERISH About a year ago I nearly crashed my car when I saw this banner above the doors of this church in DC. I understand what they're trying to say, and it certainly got my attention, but seriously, "Love or Perish"? To me, that sounds more like a death threat!

JAIL BIRDS Here's one of the strangest things I saw in Ohio. This prison was the tallest building around, and it reminded me of a bird cage with its enclosed basketball court on the roof.

RINGS I get a real kick out of seeing the rings I make being worn. A couple of weeks ago while on a road trip to Ohio, I couldn't help but smile when I saw the sunlight hitting the two rings that my friend Courtney was wearing. If you look closely, you'll notice that she was exceeding the speed limit, just a little bit.

REFLECTIONS OF THE WORLD AROUND ME
This photojournal, which I'm calling "Reflections of the World Around
Me", is something I've wanted to do for a long time. I guess it all
really started when I helped my friend Trisha drive across country in
September of 2000. I documented that trip because it ended up being a
big adventure involving ice, snow, a tractor trailer, two dead elk and
a log in the road. The story is called "The
First Day of Autumn" and is worth reading - trust me.
I carry my camera with me almost everywhere I go, and sometimes I capture some pretty interesting and often unexpected images. I also tend to get some great shots of things right outside of my window at work, which I'm sure you'll get a chance to see in the near future. The above photo was taken in the front of the Smithsonian Castle in Washington, DC. When I saw this giant Christmas tree ball on a stick, I thought about how it would make a perfect first image to represent "Reflections of the World Around Me." A big thanks goes out to my friends Hillary and Geoff for their help and support throughout the long redesign process I went through to get this site up. You guys rock!
